Rowdy Tellez set to snap wild, years-long streak for Milwaukee Brewers

Over the past decade-plus, the Milwaukee Brewers have struggled to find a reliable first baseman. And then some.

Should Rowdy Tellez draw the start at first base against the Chicago Cubs on Opening Day -- and it looks likely with right-hander Marcus Stroman scheduled to take the ball for the Cubbies -- he would become the first Brewers player since Prince Fielder (2010-2011) to start consecutive seasons at that position on Opening Day.

For his part, FIelder was tabbed for Opening Day starts in six consecutive seasons. Since they last had the same first baseman start two straight Opening Days, Milwaukee has rolled through the following lot:

Matt Gamel (2012), Alex Gonzalez (2013), Lyle Overbay (2014), Adam Lind (2015), Chris Carter (2016), Eric Thames (2017), Ryan Braun (2018), Jesus Aguilar (2019), Justin Smoak (2020), and Keston Hiura (2021).

It would appear that this funky little decade-long trend might finally be ended upcoming.
